Klaus Fehr French Horns

Located in the Southern Netherlands near Maastricht

When the German master instrument maker moved to the South of the Netherlands, near Maastricht, his passion for horn playing drove him to specialize in horns. He did all sorts of repairs and overhauls before developing and building a new kind of horn. Now, 15 years later, Fehr French Horns are established worldwide, and are well known around the world for their unique and flexible sound, but also for their superb level of craftsmanship and expertise. Klaus Fehr Horns are constructed using traditional methods and modern acoustical knowledge, while taking into account each musician’s wishes.

Klaus Fehr Horn Carftmanship

Klaus Fehr

With a true passion for instrument making, Klaus Fehr aims to provide horn players with the best possible instrument. Fehr began his career playing trumpet and studying at the Folkwang Musikhochschule Essen. In 1983, he started his apprenticeship as a brass-instrument maker in a workshop in southern Germany. Three years after acquiring his “Gesellenbrief” (journeymans certificate), Klaus Fehr won the German instrument making contest, which granted him a year’s scholarship in Los Angeles. This lead to several internships with workshops in Markneukirchen, Neustadt and Paris, leading up to the “Meisterbrief” (master craftsman’s certificate)in 1994. After moving to the Netherlands, Klaus Fehr made and repaired all types of brass wind instruments until he began playing the horn. It was this change of instrument that made him specialize in making, repairing and restoring French horns, as well as creating the instruments that now attract musicians and listeners worldwide.
